Classification Of Offline And Online UPS Systems

Uninterrupted Power Supplies are largely separated into two categories. They are either:
- Offline/Standby
- Online
These two distinctions refer to the state of the UPS’s internal inverter when the current is at its normal flow and energy.
Offline And Online Ups
Offline or Standby UPS Systems –
These UPS systems work on a simple circuit and the least expensive of the two types. During the time when supply from the main power is there, it flows through the circuit through the UPS but bypassing the inverter to the output. There is a limited amount of protection that these UPS systems offer against power surges and spikes. The batteries in this model are charged at all times and in the event of a power failure, the inverter takes over the load. It takes a matter of milliseconds, often referred to as transfer time, to switch from the mains to the inverter supply.
Offline UPS Systems at Lower Cost –
These UPS systems usually give out a pseudo sine wave output waveform then they are working on backup battery or inverter power supply. With the switch mode power supplies that are currently used in a modern computer or office systems, this type of output power waveform is usually more than adequate. More expensive Offline or Online UPS are recommended where square or pseudo sine output waveform is not acceptable.
Online UPS Systems
The Online UPS System is the most advanced and efficient usage of power back and inverter products. It receives the incoming AC mains and supplies and converts the power into DC power. This feeds the whole battery and the load through the inverter. In the case of power failure, the batteries feed power, through the inverter without any interruption.
This Online system, by nature of the dual conversion design (AC-DC / DC- AC), provides a higher degree of isolation than the load from the irregularities on the mains supply.
Consul Neowatt’s range of Online UPS systems are top of the line and best in the country, in technology, design and pricing.
